One Anothering – Week 6 (7-6-25)

One Anothering
Holy Irritation
July 6, 2025

Hebrews 10:19–25
Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, 20 by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, his body, 21 and since we have a great priest over the house of God, 22 let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. 23 Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. 24 And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, 25 not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.

Together” is not optional—it’s essential.

“Let Us…” Statements (vv. 22–24)

  • Draw Near Worship/Exaltation (v. 22)
  • Hold Fast Encouragement/Sustaining Faith (v. 23)
  • Stir Up Provoke to Action (v. 24)

Not giving up meeting together isn’t about showing up. It’s about showing up for each other.

Paroxysmos – Spur, encourage, provoke, irritate (2x’s in scripture)

Acts 15:39
They had such a sharp disagreement that they parted company. Barnabas took Mark and sailed for Cyprus,

Spur for horses

  • Not punishment, but provocation.
  • Spurs help communicate when with the horse.
  • A rider wants more than the horse is offering, they don’t shout—they spur.

The world provokes for ego. Christ provokes for love.

When we spur one another on…

  1. It Wakes Us Up
  2. It Shapes Our Character
  3. It Dislodges Fear
  4. It Helps Us See Ourselves Clearly
  5. It Fans Our Flame
  6. It Connects Us in Authentic Community
  7. It Bears Fruit in the World

When we don’t spur one another on?

  1. We Drift Toward Apathy
  2. We Stay Trapped in Shame
  3. We Miss Our Growth
  4. We Leave the Door Closed for Others
  5. We Default to Comfort Over Calling
  6. The Flame Dies
  7. We Miss the Kingdom Breaking In

Challenge:

  • Who stirs you?
  • Who have you stirred?
  • Who will you stir this week?

Be the spark. Don’t just be in the room—be the reason someone else stays faithful.
