Castles in the Sand
Foundation Check
May 31, 2026
What is weak underneath eventually becomes visible on the outside.
We ask, “Does it look good?”
Jesus asks, “What is it built on?”
Matthew 7:24–27
“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. 26 But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”
The issue is not exposure to Jesus’ words. The issue is response to Jesus’ words.
1 Corinthians 3:11
For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ.
Sand is anything that cannot sustain the weight of your soul.
The problem is not having sand in your life; the problem is asking sand to do the work of rock.
The goal is not a storm-free life, but a storm-worthy foundation.
Am I building on Christ, or adding Christ to what I already built?
Where am I hearing but not practicing?
Where am I admiring but not obeying?
Where am I asking sand to do the work of rock?
A church is not built on rock because it knows the words of Jesus. A church is built on rock when it practices the way of Jesus.
