DESPERATE LOVE

Mark 7:24–26
Jesus left that place and went to the vicinity of Tyre. He entered a house and did not want anyone to know it; yet he could not keep his presence secret. 25 In fact, as soon as she heard about him, a woman whose little daughter was possessed by an impure spirit came and fell at his feet. 26 The woman was a Greek, born in Syrian Phoenicia. She begged Jesus to drive the demon out of her daughter.

She is a mother whose little girl is suffering

JESUS CROSSES THE BOUNDARY

Mark 7:24
went to the vicinity of Tyre.

Is there room in the house for someone like her?

THE TABLE MEANS BELONGING

Mark 7:27–28
“First let the children eat all they want,” he told her, “for it is not right to take the children’s bread and toss it to the dogs.” 28 “Lord,” she replied, “even the dogs under the table eat the children’s crumbs.”

Is there room at the table for me?

When mercy is in the house, desperate people find the door.

MARK’S TRAIL OF BREADCRUMBS

  • Mark 6 — Bread for Israel, 5,000
  • Mark 7 — Clean and unclean
  • Mark 7 — Crumbs for the outsider
  • Mark 8 — Bread for the nations, 4,000

First does not mean only.

If Jesus came first for Israel, why is he standing in Gentile territory?

Grace For All.

Titus 2:11 says, “For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people.”

THE HARD WORD

Mark 7:27
First, let the children eat all they want, for it is not right to take the children’s bread and toss it to the dogs.

  • Children = Israel
  • Dogs = Gentiles
  • Bread = blessings of the kingdom

THE CRUMBS

Mark 7:28
“Lord, even the dogs under the table eat the children’s crumbs.”

Just give me the crumbs!

A crumb may not seem like much, unless it falls from a table where the bread never runs out.

GREAT FAITH

Mark 7:29
“For such a reply, you may go; the demon has left your daughter.”

MERCY ARRIVES QUIETLY

Mark 7:30
“She went home and found her child lying on the bed, and the demon gone.”
