About Us

OUR STORY

Shiloh's story began in 1977 when several families saw the need to plant a congregation on the south side of Tyler, as the city was growing in that direction. Stepping out in faith, two men signed their names to a loan, purchasing the land at the corner of Shiloh Road and Paluxy Drive. Since the beginning in 1977, our family has grown and is involved in ministries serving our community and around the world. Over time God has shaped and changed our vision, shown us incredible favor, and done some amazing things in our midst. It is our passion that the glory of God would be our unhindered pursuit.

OUR VISION

In 2016, we took a series of steps to create a Vision for our church that we felt would be beneficial to the growth of our family and God's kingdom. We took into consideration how our culture might differ 15 years from now and what kind of an impact we are hoping for this congregation to have on our local and global community. This process took several months, many prayers, and the efforts of numerous people.

So, as we look to 2030, our Vision is to Exalt Christ, Encourage One Another, and Engage Our Neighbor.

EXALT CHRIST

Hebrews 12:1-3 When we see the glory of our God and Christ, our eyes are open to His beauty and majesty. He gives us new eyes: His eyes. Eyes to see the beauty of His bride. Eyes to see people the way He sees them. Often it is through worship that we first encounter and catch a glimpse of Christ.

ENCOURAGE ONE ANOTHER

Acts 2:42-47 This changes our heart. Our heart to grow closer to God through learning more about Him and connecting and walking along with others on the same journey. At its core it is discipleship. It is helping one another grow in our relationship with Christ, one another, and the world around us. We encourage, love one another, laugh together, cry together, rejoice together, and eat together.

ENGAGE OUR NEIGHBOR

Isaiah 61:1-3 We are growing with others when we go out to engage the world hand in hand. We want to be exceedingly generous with our time, money, and abilities to serve the church and the world. Serving beginning right here in our community and to the ends of the earth.

VISION & VALUES

Take an in depth look at how the Shiloh congregation pursues our 2030 vision through core values.

Vision Breakdown

We're in the business of life change. It's our hope that through worship, church community encouragement, and engaging our neighbors we will partner with God in bringing about the Good News of Jesus Christ.

Core Values

So how do we exemplify that vision? What does that look like? It's pretty simple: we commit to serving and loving people like Jesus... and it looks like this!

Pursue God Together

We are committed to pursuing spiritual growth through spiritual disciplines, our weekly gathering and a Bible class.

People Matter

We are committed to people, because people matter to God and people matter to us. As a kingdom of priests we represent God to the world.

Circles Not Rows

We are committed to living life together as a part of a smaller community of believers. Groups serve the purpose of providing accountability, belonging, and care.

Invest & Invite

Because people matter, we are committed to investing in the lives of those around us and inviting them to join us in our journey to follow Jesus.

Seeing Needs, Meeting Needs

We are committed to being exceedingly generous. We give not only our time, but also our money and ourselves for the Kingdom of God.

Multiply Yourself

We are committed to doing ministry together by teaching and empowering others to do what we do.

WHAT WE BELIEVE

We'd love to answer any questions you may have about faith, Jesus, and what we believe!

About God...

There is only one true God. He is the Creator of life and mankind. He has always been (He is eternal) and co-exists equally in three Persons: God the Father, God the Son (Jesus Christ), and God the Holy Spirit. We learn about God through His creation, His Word, and His Son. God loves us more than we can imagine.

Genesis 1:26-27; Deuteronomy 6:4; Job 38:1-41:34; Matthew 3:13-17; John 3:16; Romans 1:19,20; 2 Corinthians 13:14; Ephesians 4:6

About Jesus Christ...

Jesus Christ is God’s Son. He came to earth and became man- fully God and fully man. He revealed to us who God is. He came to earth to reveal God as savior, dying on a cross to save humanity from its sins, by literally taking sin upon himself.  He was buried but on the third day, he rose from the grave, conquering life’s greatest tormentor, death.

Matthew 1:22-23; John 1:1,14,18; Acts 10:37-43; 1 Corinthians 15:3-4; Ephesians 2:4-8; Philippians 2:5-11; Colossians 1:15-21; Hebrews 1:1-3

About the Holy Spirit...

Christ told his disciples it was better for Him to go away so that He could send his spirit. His spirit dwells in each member of God’s family as Advocate, Helper, and Guide. It is when we are baptized into Christ we receive the gift of his spirit. It is His spirit that guides in the way of Jesus and empowers each of us to be His hands and feet in this world.

John 14:16-17; John 16:7-13; Acts 2:38; 1 Corinthians 6:19-20; Ephesians 3:16-20; Ephesians 5:18

About the Bible...

The Bible is a collection of 66 books, written down by 40 different authors, over a period of 2,000 years all telling the same story: the story of God, His work in this world, and ultimately, His love for humanity.  His word is divine, inspired, and one of the ways we can personally know God.

Psalm 19:7-11; Psalm 119:105, 160; John 17:17; 1 Thessalonians 2:13; 2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:20-21

About Salvation...

We were created in the image of God, but one by one each of us has abandoned our God-given image to follow our own passions and purpose. The Bible calls it sin and it is sin that separates us from God. It is this sin that Jesus takes upon his shoulders, laying his life down for all of mankind.  The sinless son does not respond in kind, he does not seek revenge but instead offers forgiveness to all who will accept and submit their life to him.

The Bible calls God’s act of love grace. His grace is His gift to us. The way we receive His gift is by entering into a covenant relationship with Jesus by placing our trust and faith in Him. When we decide that we will follow Jesus for the rest of our lives, we demonstrate our trust in Jesus by being baptized (immersed) into Him. The beauty of baptism is that it is a way we as believers in Jesus demonstrate and join in the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus. It is through baptism we are united with Christ, our sins are washed away, we receive His spirit, and are clothed with Christ. Because of His grace, those who are in Christ are given the gift of life with Christ for all of eternity.

About the Church...

The Church is the family of God. It is made up of all those who have chosen to place their trust and faith in Jesus and who are His followers (disciples). The Church is not a building or one particular group of believers. The Bible uses the analogy that Jesus is the Head of the Church which is His body. God’s will is for the Church to gather to worship and serve its Head, to love and encourage those who are in the body, and to work to maintain the unity of the body. The church is a kingdom of priests, created in Christ Jesus to do good works.
