I Doubt That – Week 1 (4-16-23)

I Doubt That…
I Can Have Doubts
April 16, 2023

Doubt is a prerequisite for faith.

What happens when doubts arise?
What do we do with our doubts?

My experience:
For most people doubt does not arise from an intellectual crisis but from an experiential crisis.

Bad things happen…

  • Our choices
  • Others choices
  • Just happen

Abraham

Genesis 18:23-25
Then Abraham approached him and said: “Will you sweep away the righteous with the wicked? 24 What if there are fifty righteous people in the city? Will you really sweep it away and not spare the place for the sake of the fifty righteous people in it? 25 Far be it from you to do such a thing—to kill the righteous with the wicked, treating the righteous and the wicked alike. Far be it from you! Will not the Judge of all the earth do right?”

What if asking is not doubting?
What if asking is actually trusting?

Can I ask you a personal question?
A desire to deepen the relationship.

What is your name?

Moses

Exodus 3:13-14
Moses said to God, “Suppose I go to the Israelites and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they ask me, ‘What is his name?’ Then what shall I tell them?” God said to Moses, “I am who I am. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I am has sent me to you.’”

Exodus 18:19
Listen now to me and I will give you some advice, and may God be with you. You must be the people’s representative before God and bring their disputes to him.

Your job as the leader is not to have all the answers but to cultivate a relationship with the one who does!

Matthew 7:7-8
“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.
