John 6:27-29
27 Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life, which the “Son of Man” will give you. For on him God the Father has placed his seal of approval.” Then they asked him, “What must we do to do the works God requires?” 29 Jesus answered, “The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent.”
What must we do?
John 6:30-31
So they asked him, “What sign then will you give that we may see it and believe you? What will you do? 31 Our ancestors ate the manna in the wilderness; as it is written: ‘He gave them bread from heaven to eat.’”
They wanted Jesus for what he could give them, not for who he was.
John 6:32-33
Jesus said to them, “Very truly I tell you, it is not Moses who has given you the bread from heaven, but it is my Father who gives you the true bread from heaven. 33 For the bread of God is the bread that comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.”
God gives bread.
“Blessed are You, LORD our God, King of the Universe, Who brings forth bread from the earth”
John 6:34-35
“Sir,” they said, “always give us this bread.” Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.
“ego eimi” in greek; “EHWEH” in Hebrew – I will be/am
John 8:58
“Very truly I tell you,” Jesus answered, “before Abraham was born, I AM!” 59 At this, they picked up stones to stone him, but Jesus hid himself, slipping away from the temple grounds.
Deuteronomy 8:3
He humbled you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna, which neither you nor your ancestors had known, to teach you that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.
Hosea 2:14
“Therefore I am now going to allure her;
I will lead her into the wilderness
and speak tenderly to her.
Often our goal is to get through the desert, but I believe God’s hope is to grow us through the desert.
God will take you to places you have not chosen to go in order to produce in you what you are incapable of producing on your own.
What Are You Feeding Your Soul?
Do you want Jesus or do you just want what Jesus can give you?
