Amazing Grace – Week 11 (11-19-23)

Amazing Grace
Do you trust God?
November 19, 2023

Galatians 6:11-16
See what large letters I use as I write to you with my own hand! Those who want to impress people by means of the flesh are trying to compel you to be circumcised. The only reason they do this is to avoid being persecuted for the cross of Christ. 13 Not even those who are circumcised keep the law, yet they want you to be circumcised that they may boast about your circumcision in the flesh. May I never boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world. 15 Neither circumcision nor uncircumcision means anything; what counts is the new creation. 16 Peace and mercy to all who follow this rule—to the Israel of God.

What now?

Faith in Christ + LAW = New Life in Christ
Faith in Christ = New Life in Christ

Main Idea:
Embrace the Gospel message of the crucified Messiah, that justifies all people through faith in Christ and empowers them to live like Jesus.

Underlying Theme… TRUST!
Do you trust God?
Do you trust that Christ is enough?

Galatians 5:26
Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.

Conceitkenodoxos
deep insecurity, a perceived absence of honor & glory leading to a need to prove our worth to ourself & others

Luke 18:10-13
“Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. 11 The Pharisee stood by himself and prayed: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other people—robbers, evildoers, adulterers—or even like this tax collector. 12 I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get.’ 13 “But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, ‘God, have mercy on me, a sinner.’

The Gospel:

  1. More flawed & sinful than you ever dared to believe
  2. More loved & accepted in Christ than ever thought possible
  3. Grace of God is bigger & more radiant than anything you could imagine.

Not only a question of, do you believe this Gospel enough to confess your faith in it but do you believe this Gospel enough to live out it’s message?

Does this Gospel change you?

Galatians 2:20-21
I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. 21 I do not set aside the grace of God, for if righteousness could be gained through the law, Christ died for nothing!”
